Fairy Tale Friday

The girls rose early the next day.  They didn’t have much time in Sweden as their return flight was the next morning.  They had a good breakfast of Surstromming (fermented herring served with boiled potatoes and salad), and this was washed down with a few large glasses of snapps, just to get some heat into the girls bodies.

They charged out into the snow, heading for the Abba Museum.

They finally arrived early in the morning around ten o’clock at the museum situated in Stockholm.  A beautiful, and snowy part of the city.  The girls entered and paid their entrance fees, before moving into the main foyer where they started to take their winter clothing off.  By twelve noon, they were finally ready, the floor lay strewn with winter jackets, cardigans, jumpers, stockings, hats and gloves.  Gayle bundled them all into some bin bags and spoke to the girl in the ticket office.

“Is it ok to leave our jackets here”, said Gayle.
“Certainly”, came the response, and that was followed by Gayle and the girls throwing half a dozen large, full bin bags over the counter and running, leaving a very bemused assistant behind.

The exhibition was incredible.  Music blared through the hallways as the girls looked at the fashions of the day, and the gold and platinum discs earned by the band.  In fact between twelve and six o’clock, time flew past, and before the girls new it, the museum was closing.  So amazed were they, it’s apparently the first museum they’ve ever went to where they weren’t thrown out for disturbing the peace.

Even the security guards were patient as the girls put back on their winter clothing and headed out into the Swedish evening.

The girls decided to go out to dinner, then paint the town red, so they charged into the first reasonable looking restaurant and ordered dinner and a snapps to heat themselves up before moving to a pub.  The food was lovely, they were a bit rowdy, but again weren’t thrown out.  That is until the bill came.  It worked out at a LOT of Swedish Krona per person.  That didn’t seem munch until Gayle looked the exchange rate up on the internet and discovered it was many pounds each.

This led to a number of complaints by the design team, and a few burley men appeared on scene to throw the girls into the cold outside.

Cold and skint outside, the girls pulled together the funds they had left and purchased a few bottles of vodka, and some soft drinks as mixers.  It was slim pickings for the girls who would normally get through that individually on a night out.  But so it began, a bunch of ladies drinking shorts outside in the freezing cold Stockholm night.

And that’s where the police found the girls frozen in blocks of ice.  The next morning, they were quickly bundled into the cargo bay of their plane home, sitting, slowly defrosting in among all the luggage.

On arrival at Glasgow airport, concerns were raised at the luggage carousel as the DT arrived in Glasgow, surrounded by open suit cases where they’d taken clothes out to keep warm.  I’m sure the airline will be resolving complaints for some time to come.

Fairy Tale Friday

The girls were all excited.  The new Abba Museum had opened in Stockholm, Sweden, and the girls were going to visit it as part of a short city break.  They’d been saving for months, and had managed to get seats on a budget airline, and would be staying in Maritha’s aunties house while they were there.  That helped to keep the costs down.

Now it’s important that when staying with someone, you take over a present that’s associated with the country you’re from.  Gayle had decided she’d take an extra bag which would be full of freshly caught haggis.  It’s very lucky that Colette took a bottle of 20 year old Malt Whiskey with her, because as soon as Gayle arrived in  the airport and went to go through customs, she was frogmarched to a small office where her bags were searched.  Apparently haggis may seem inedible to most people, Scottish passport staff still consider it a food, and as such can’t be taken to foreign countries.

The plane flight was crowded.  Food that cost extra (and Gayle had no haggis to eat), they even had to pay to use the toilet (We’ll not say the name of the airline in case they sue us).  Cramped seat, no in-flight entertainment, luckily the girls were all sitting next to each other, they chatted all the way through the flight, would swap seat with each other so they could chat to people they hadn’t chatted to yet.  The pushed seats back, then when they didn’t like that, moved them forward again.  They continually pushed the steward button, requesting more booze.  Their nuisance antics led one passenger to complain that children shouldn’t be allowed on a plane unless accompanied by a supervising adult!

They arrived and cleared customs with a few strange looks.  They unfortunately didn’t have any connecting flights booked, and managed to get a bus that took them most of the way to Maritha’s aunties house.  The bus driver however was not as patient as the people on the plane, and after some more antics, the girls were kick off the bus, ten miles from their accommodation.  This meant a walk through the freezing, snowy climate of Sweden.

Dragging suitcases behind them, the girls hiked toward their home for the weekend.  Trudging through deep snow, the girls had dressed accordingly (based on their recent skiing episode), and were reasonably cheerful until they spotted a wolf following them.

They marched on, slightly panicky, then more panicky as another two joined the first.  They picked up pace, and the wolves followed close behind.  Finally they charged, the girls fled in all directions, and the wolves stopped at Gayle’s case that previously held the haggis and dragged the case off into the bushes.

The girls recovered their bags and ran off, arriving finally at a large house built on the side of a mountain.  Here they rested their aching feet before downing the bottle of whiskey they had brought.  They needed something to calm their nerves.

Next week we’ll tell you about the visit to the museum, a chance meeting with someone famous, and some more police.  We look forward to seeing you then.

Fairy Tale Friday

It was Easter Sunday, and all the girls were eggcited (Do you see what I did there?!?! !!!!).  Gayle had been up early and hidden a barrel load of chocolate eggs all around Teddy Bo Towers and the gardens outside.  Little did Gayle know that Claire had risen early from bed deliberately to follow Gayle around as she hid each egg.  Claire followed at a distance, and with a pad and pen took notes of where all the eggs were.
Half past ten in the morning, the girls all started to rise for breakfast.  “Easter Sunday Eve” had now become a big booze up session for the girls, and had been added to the calendar, along with Pancake Tuesday Eve; all the Saints Day Eve’s (St Andrew, St George etc);  April Fool’s Day Eve; Bonfire Night Eve; the list goes on.
A bleary eyed Claire had an extra ten minutes in bed after her escapade that morning, and trotted in to find a load of girls stuffing haggis porridge down their throats, getting more and more excited about the Easter egg hunt.
Gayle let off a popper with streamers, and that signalled the start of the hunt.  The girls all split up, racing up and down through the tower. Claire took her time, and an extra large carrier bag, notebook and pen, and wandered through the tower picking up all the eggs.
The girls between them found a couple, this did it’s bit to encourage them further, and chants of “Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate” could be heard around the tower.
No one noticed Claire and her plastic bag that was increasing in size as the morning wore on.
Tired and dejected, the girls returned in dribs and drabs to the main hall to see who had all the eggs.  Discussions on where the eggs were started to get heated, and then they noticed that Claire wasn’t among them.  The girls put 2 and 2 together, and for once made 4.
And so started the great egg hunt as the girls charged around the tower opening up every door and looking under every bed, and eventually found Claire hiding in the broom cupboard, chocolate dribbling down over her face.
Now normally the girls would be reasonably fair, and would hold court in the middle of the main hall.  This gives the defendant a chance to state their story.  But this was chocolate, and nothing more evil could occur in the tower than a chocolate hoarder.
Poor Claire had to spend all her savings on chocolate for the girls, and will be doing the weekly chocolate shopping trip for the next 3 months so now the other girls don’t need to take their turn.
Just a warning for all you crafters out there.  Never get in between a design team member and a piece of chocolate.  It’s not good for your health.

Maritha
