Fairy Tale Friday

Christmas was coming, so the girls decided that as tight as things were, they'd need to diversify and try to bring in some more money. Elaine came up with the idea of using Teddy Bo Towers as a venue for concerts, so Donna was sent out to look for a band that could perform on Saturday night, while the others looked at advertising the gig, an alcohol license, nibbles, and how to set up the gig in the Towers main hall.

Donna went about town asking the locals who they would want to see at the first gig. The response was mixed, One Direction, Rod Stewart, Michael Buble. All BIG stars that would be way out of the girls budget. However, she did manage to sign a band for their opening night.

Meanwhile Gayle talked to the local pub and the Councillor and had managed to get a liquor license for the evening as a trial. The only limit was that the bar had to shut at 10:30 PM on the night of the gig. "10:30 PM" thought Gayle. "The girls will only be onto their 2nd bottle of vodka by that time", but that's as far as the Councillor would go.

Colette was in charge of advertising. She put a couple of posters in the village, and put out a massive internet campaign out through the websites the girls used. It took her all of 15 minutes to get this all done, so she had the full day to pick out her outfit for the concert the following evening.

Lau went to the local store to pick up nibbles. She had a tenner to cover all the food requirements, so she went for cheesy balls and onion rings. Classy foods for the evening, and enough to keep everyone going, or at least until it ended at 10:30 PM.

Finally the rest of the girls had the hard job. Moving all the crafting materials, the banks of sewing machines, work tables and all the other materials to other rooms, so that the main room would be free to welcome as many guests as possible. In fact there was so much stuff to move, and so little space outwith the main hall, they had to put boxes into the newly repaired toilet. In fact Trudie carried the last of the boxes in, and when she turned around, she couldn't get the door open. All the screaming and shouting, but no one appeared to save her. She settled down for the night in the hope someone would rememember her. In fact the other girls complained she was a lazy so and so, hiding away when there was work to do. If only they knew!!

And so the morning of the concert came, and the girls all raced to the toilet to get ready. But the door was locked. All eyes turned on Debbie who had sneakily boarded up the toilet door a couple of weeks ago, but she pled her innocence. They all charged in a group against the door BANG! and then a shrill scream escaped from the room!!! The girls looked at ech other, Trudie cried out 'who's there', and then a further hour was spent moving boxes about before the door could be opened, and she could climb out.

Finally the evening began, odd as it may seem, there were ninety nine women to one man. I suppose that's what you get when you advertise your concert on a big list of craft websites. The booze was flowing, the girls were starting to make some money, and then the band came on. 'B.A.A.B' were an ABBA bootleg band, unfortunately it was three rather overweight guys and a skinny girl on stage. They bounded onto with the backing track playing and immediately started singing 'Super Trooper'. However, the vocals with three guys and one girl didn't quite work, but the crafting girls were already bouncing about the main hall screaming at the top of their voices and downing alcohol in large quantities.

The design team could see nothing but pound signs in front of their eyes, it'd be a really good Christmas this year.

And then it all went wrong as everything seems to do at Teddy Bo Towers. The boozy women went looking for the toilet, and they found it, but the door wouldn't open. The ones at the front realising that there were boxes behind the door, but they couldn't escape from the girls pushing in, and before long, ninety nine women were pushing at the door. SNAP, CRACK, THUMP, and the door fell inwards followed by the girls.

It took fifteen minutes to get them all seperated, then the first aid for cuts and bruises, and finally Gayle had to return their ticket money after threats of bringing in the police. So we're left where we started, a messy Tower and no money for Christmas, looks like it will be home made gifts again.

Teddy Bo Tuesday

Hi everyone, and welcome to another Teddy Bo Tuesday.  Unfortunately I'm typing this today from my bed as I managed to dislocate my knee cap on Friday morning while I was getting my clothes on in preparation for the weekly Yoga class that takes place in the village next to Teddy Bo Towers!!  Apparently lifting one's leg up to put into yoga pants can be quite a dangerous thing to do!!!!  So I'm now confined to my bed, which sounds very luxurious but it doesn't help when we're only two weeks away from Christmas!!!

I hope you're getting organised and that your plans are coming together nicely for the holiday season.  The girls are so busy decorating every inch of the towers that once again we've got a mixture of showcasing old and new cards....x

Fairy Tale Friday

It's Christmas...... Well almost. It's reached that time of year when the decorations are put up in Teddy Bo Towers. The girls went to the cupboard where all their goodies were stored and pulled out boxes and boxes of decorations. Gayle opened the first box and peered inside. "Oh oh, looks like a problem", she sad. "there's a lot of dampness here, I think we need to replace it all".

So off the girls went to the poundshop.  Maritha was left behind to order the expensive things on the internet. She was the only one who could work the computer (slightly), and could even get it to play Abba music which the girls thought was amazing. Her budget was £50, so she had the biggest portion of the budget, while the girls had £20 to spend on tinsel and baubles.

Maritha bought a nice tree from ebay which would be delivered next day for £10. She picked up a few bits and pieces, then realised she'd forgotten to buy a fairy for the top of the tree. She found one on an online department store that seemed to be able to deliver everything, but the online ordering system was down (spot the cool IT speak), so she had to phone her order in.

The girls meanwhile had driven into town in the Teddy Bo mini bus to the local thrift store and were charging about inside it fighting with other shoppers for the bargains. The girls noticed a large display which contained a pile of tinsel with a sign above saying three strips for a pound. Bargain. The girls formed ranks like a unit of roman soldiers and marched up the aisle to the display. It was then that they collided with old Mrs Roberts and her trolly as she came out from another aisle. Gayle acted first and vaulted over the shopping in a 'Matrix style' slow motion, and the girls slammed into the trolley and the little old lady, knocking it over and spilling her goods over the shop floor.

Gayle arrived on top of the big round display area and promptly fell through it, leaving her stuck in the middle of the cheap display, surrounded by piles of tinsel and confused shoppers.

After paying for the damages, the girls managed to buy three strips of tinsel and a box of 10 baubles (£2.00 total spend). They returned home down heartened. "Ah well" said Gayle, we'll just have to make our own".

The next day, the tree arrived. It didn't look like the one they ordered, it was all straggly. But what can you expect for a tenner. The day after that, the postman delivered the fairy to sit atop the tree. Now Maritha has an accent (actually, she speaks Swenglish but we love her anyway) and there must have been some misunderstanding between her and the man from the online store, because he'd sent a model ferry, not a fairy. So now we have a straggly tree with a few baubles and some tinsel, and a small boat sitting on the top!!!
So, with one more thing out of the way, the girls got back to what they do best!!  Again we have a mix of old and new cards as I've asked the girls to show off some of their favourite cards from this year...xx
